Day 7
DAY SEVEN - WHAT SHOULD I READ?
TODAY'S BIBLE READING: https://www.bible.com/bible/116/2ti.3.16
Alright…It’s been a week and you’re still here. You’ve discovered some of the basics about God, following Jesus, sin and being saved etc etc etc…But you want to know more…You want to see stories of the people of God throughout history and you want to find out what God has done thorughout time and what he’s like. You want to see what Jesus did so you can live like him. You really want to find out more about what it means to be a Christian….Well thankfully…it’s not a massive secret or a hidden mystery…Because all of that can be found in the Bible. The Bible is 66 books put together in one place. There’s history, wisdom, poetry, prophesy, the Gospels, they show Jesus’ life and letters to ancient churches teaching them how to live for God. The thing about the Bible is that it’s not an encylopedia or text book that we grab only when we need an answer….you should look at it more like food…Something you need to consume every day to stay healthy. It doesn’t have to be much….You don’t want to read so much that you forget it…You want to read enough that you can let it actually speak to you! Your reading for today is 2 Timothy 3:16-17 and it pretty clearly shows you how amazing and useful and important the Bible really is. Here’s some quick tips for reading the Bible..
1. Follow a plan - don’t just randomly turn and point…pick a book and read it through..I rekon you should start with one of the Gospels…Mark is a good one.
2. Write about it - It helps! When you write about it, it helps you remember it and make it real in your life…We do a thing called REACT.
R means Ready - put aside distractions. Grab a Bible. Maybe put on some worship.
E means Engage - Pick what you’re reading…Maybe it’s Mark 3:1-10..Write down what you see about Jesus. Try to answer the question “What do I see about Jesus or the way of Jesus or the Kingdom of God in this bit of the Bible?”
A means Act - This is where you might like to write a very practical thing about what you read…For example, If we read 2 Timothy 3:16-17 the Act bit could be something like…I will read the Bible and trust that it’s God’s word and is helpful.
C means Change - This bit is where you write about what your world and the people around you would be like if you did this…So maybe you’d write something like “If i took on the teachings in the Bible and made them real in my life, it would look very different and people would notice the chage in me…They’d want to know why I’m diffferent.
T means Talk - Talk to God….ask him to help you make it real in your life. Talk to people. Ask your leader some questions, tell your friends about what you’ve read…whatever it is….don’t keep it to yourself.
